i feel a strange turn of guilt
for ever opening it,
but you see,
it looked like a birthday card
and if it was
i would have kept the tenner
but
i'm sorry you can't see the photo
of the happy couple.


charlotte
wears a duchess-of-cambridge style dress
it doesn't suit her
she is plump
without being fat
without being curvy.
her hair
is curled in an intricate turd-do
crowned
with a silver daisy headband.

nick has chosen a suit jacket down to his knees
in a business navy colour
with brown shoes,
he has spiked his hair in the middle
like a blonde thatched roof.
a white rose sticks proudly out of his chest
where a large blue tie knot rests.
his collar is crooked.

the photo
really
showcases the wedding car
i bet nick chose it.
"that's a nice photo" he said
and charlotte said "really?"
she is looking at how his hand lays on her waist
how he squints in the sun
how his brown shoe
stands on the hem of her dress.
she is thinking.

he is thinking too
it would be a cleaner picture
if the rear wheels were in shot.
