Origami Messengers

.
While long trips he would be away,
He learned from me the little swans
He'd let loose in the evening, o'er
The dreams I never had until

His swans filled constellations with
Haiku and sisters Senryu
That only I would see each night
That brought me his companionship

While he is far away from me
Till back home once again, we two,
When I will whisper in reply
My origami messengers:

I bring the night
in raiments' endless stars
to thee

will summer
dare outshine their heat
in vain to place

my love,
the solstice waits at will
its turn at last

till then
let crickets still their trill
to hear our thrum.
