I've been kicked while I was down
think you've got me all figured out
but you don't even know
Behind this smiling mask of lies
no one can see the pain inside
a broken heart, a shattered soul,
a piece of me that's dying alone
Don't ever judge someone
'cause what you see,
may not always be what it seems.

Hmm I guess a broken heart and shattered soul could mean a number of things that is behind the mask, darkness , sadness , both ..... But true statement at the end.
