Aunt Minnie
(Don't have a photo of my Aunt Minnie . . .)
Aunt Minnie was a frail wisp of a woman
Uncle Tom was a giant of a man
Stetson hat, mean bastard
I’ve thought about Aunt Minnie
most of my life
wondering . . .
why no one in the family didn’t stop him
I was much too young

So good to see you, flower, thank you.
Back in those days nothing much was done
about spousal abuse. They considered it to
be under the marriage contract and refused
to intercede.

Every family has its unwritten rules and unspoken secrets, all too often we see these horrors as kids and sometimes regrettably repeat them as adults

Many thanks,Lobo!, for your far-ranging, honest comments,
and I tend to agree wholeheartedly with then.

Brenda, I thank you so much for you kind comments. It is true that I had a not-so-normal childhood, and even a for sure not-so-normal adulthood. The only good thing coming from either is that both childhood and adulthood gives me plenty material for writing my poetry.

Eeeeesh....such a sad memory to have to carry with you...no one should have to be subjected to this...not the one being abused of course, nor the ones witnessing and unable to help...I hug you knowing if you could have stopped him, you would have...

I like to think I would have stepped in when he was acting ugly. Embarrassed me and then pissed me off everyone was staring off into space when he was in one of his goddamn crazy moods.
