Goodbye

The silent wood so early in the day
sunshine like an arrow, straight
piercing trees, stood close and dense
cockerels sleepy eyed and crows asleep,
mists rising through leaves
high in vaulted branches
early promise of April flowers.
The evil that is a wood at night
retreating for a day.
Tracks again for all to see
laced with fern and safe.
So I walk content
listen to silent leaves
sea-shell whispers in my ears.
Here is time to think,
intoxicating intercourse
soul and body satisfied.
Sleep-walking as a child
weave my dreams at leisure
alone until a flash of light
disturbs  my reverie,
before a glade of softest green
primrose and cowslip's powdered yellow.
She comes to me, slow unsure,
tear filled eyes of gratitude
a timid kiss and took my hand
trusting follows me;
arched her neck against my shoulder;
to the wicket gate; undid the string
stood back, closed eyes one last kiss
and gone to wait the afternoon.
"Beware of shadows little one
stay with the herd, goodbye.
If we meet again, and that I doubt,
show me your kids (and maybe theirs)
and kiss me once again"
