In Darkness
He walks the dark streets
In search of that one light
In a storefront
That means they’ll be open
Just looking for a hot cup of coffee
Or a cold beer
And a barmaid to pass the time with
He should be sleeping
But gave up that hope
Long ago
And so spends the darkness
In search of those like himself
Still awake when the world slumbers
And dreams its dreams
These streets are his dreams
And the people in the lighted storefronts
Are the ghosts who inhabit those dreams
In the darkness
In search of that one light
In a storefront
That means they’ll be open
Just looking for a hot cup of coffee
Or a cold beer
And a barmaid to pass the time with
He should be sleeping
But gave up that hope
Long ago
And so spends the darkness
In search of those like himself
Still awake when the world slumbers
And dreams its dreams
These streets are his dreams
And the people in the lighted storefronts
Are the ghosts who inhabit those dreams
In the darkness
