Memories Of Home

I’m coming home
After these twenty long years
To bury the dead
And put the memories into the ground
With their author
So I may finally go forward
Without the monster in my head
To speak ill of me
These are my memories of growing up
Without compliment or love
Only constant derision
To take my pride and drive it
Into the ground
But today they will go in the box with him
Forever and ever
To never reach me again
And make me feel small
At my victories
Never a punch to leave marks
Only words to mark my mind
With bruises and cuts
But now it is over and gone
Into the ground with the monster
Who planted them in my awareness
Until today

Based on some long ago forgotten article or radio program that finally percolated it's way to my conscious mind again and onto the screen as a poem.
