LOVERS

.
we were lovers from a key stroke
before knowing another way,

as if it were by match strike, melting
scrim of snow that fogged our days,

a single word, then another,
taking us where they'd descended,

discarded feathers touching down
where words sparked and darkness ended,

the vantage of a global span
doesn't save the fabric fraying,

showing through from years of wearing
of its nature, why it's tearing

aging long before we wouldn't,
old enough to know we shouldn't

be doing things to criticize,
encourage tempers on the rise,

times we'd slam a virtual door
and then forget what that was for,

and even tried to withhold sex,
now come on, really, while we'd text?

but now these days we are relieved,
and steadfast in what we believe

the two of us still live apart,
best of friends and from the heart.

and so it was, till there's no time,
when we met, stanza to a rhyme.
