Retrospect

well look at me
and the time I've spent
literally
time gets a little quirky
when you're seventy-seven
the days go by faster
rushing me to the . . .
ahhh,  I try to stay busy
writing, reading, playing with Zoe
keeping the mind active
as they say
but sometimes I sit and reflect
no longer angry
merely looking at the way my life evolved
looking at it as if it was a slow moving river
but rapids were here and there
and as I see the churning in the river of my thoughts
I shake my head
knowing I was very lucky
to escape with my life
though I have children
to my everlasting shame
I deserted them
in the drugged-out sixties
and that is so hard to deal with
so . . .
I am alone nearing the end
don't know how it will happen
the bend of the river
where it will stop
the water of my life forever stilled
