the truth about addiction

the truth about addiction is that it is gentle. an addiction is a difficult thing to separate from oneself because it seems natural. addiction is a comfort and support. from an outsiders perspective gentle, natural, comfort and support are the opposite of what they see. they see anguish and pain and destruction. and these are addictions faces too. but we must expand our compassion in understanding. addiction comes from chaos and offers structure and repetition in a world which seems far removed from order. we must try to understand what reality must exist for one whose solace is starting a fire within. when the interior is unclear the chaos expresses a truthful impulse towards Loving oneself. this is who i am. i am broken and disorderly. and when the exterior tells me this is wrong, i retreat deeper into my addiction because it understand me. an excess of energy lives within me and i have never been told i have the power to express it in a different way. society sees me as an outlier not a healer. but the addicted soul has been placed on earth to transmute darkness into Light, and the excess darkness they express is the first healing task. an intimate demon and Lover to face. what an addict needs is support. a force as gentle, comforting, and natural as the substance they see as a loyal friend. you can not battle an addiction and win. you have to love and accept it into oblivion. you have to appreciate what hole it has filled and dig deeper into the darkness until you find the base. the root. the truth. but this truth needs to be reinforced by a society of compassion. in a world addled with mental unease we must show our brothers and sisters that our love is not contingent. our love is not medicated. our love is not prescribed. our love is not "when you get better." our love is eternal. and within eternity there is the long journey towards wholeness. there is miscalculation and abuse. there is a gentle calling home. the truth about addiction is a place to feel at home. can we invite them from the street into a palace of peace? only if we can be more gentle, more comforting, more supportive than the deep sweet call of chaos which too can bring peace.
