A certain understanding
Once the sun disappears, nights usher in
A welcome darkness not unlike my thoughts;
These hope, unconsciously, that we’ll begin
A certain understanding, and such sports
As both of us will consciously deploy,
Acknowledging existence, as it is;
And opportunities we’ll both enjoy;
We’ll see the fog that thickens from the mist:
It blankets both our journeys, on a bed
Of leaves beneath a tree where we incline;
And aid each other’s purchase; I have said
That I’m delighted and content to sign
And seal my message with a kiss that steers
You through this darkness, when day disappears.
A welcome darkness not unlike my thoughts;
These hope, unconsciously, that we’ll begin
A certain understanding, and such sports
As both of us will consciously deploy,
Acknowledging existence, as it is;
And opportunities we’ll both enjoy;
We’ll see the fog that thickens from the mist:
It blankets both our journeys, on a bed
Of leaves beneath a tree where we incline;
And aid each other’s purchase; I have said
That I’m delighted and content to sign
And seal my message with a kiss that steers
You through this darkness, when day disappears.
