TARA BELLE

I'm the mother of Tara Belle,
So what is it you want to know?

Why am I wearing these handcuffs,
It doesn't seem fair to myself.

I know that I look awfully young,
But can I help it if I am?

I gave birth when I was thirteen,
And today, I'm eighteen years old.

Though I was a girl child myself,
As she grew, we were like sisters.

Our hearts did touch when we would hug,
And never gave me any grief.

More perfect a child you'd not need,
And life with her brought all I'd want.

Material things, this is true,
And I never needed to work.

I couldn't know how this happened,
I only knew that I was blessed.

But other kids were mean to her,
They all called her "Tara from Hell".

The bullies from school picked on her,
When she'd walk back home from preschool.

They'd push her & taunt her & kick.
She would never have hurt a fly.

But more & more, as she got hurt,
There was a day something would change.

As usual, Tara was stopped
By bullies who hated her guts.

I never found out why they did,
They couldn't be jealous of her!

They circled her, moving in close,
A school bus had pulled up just then.

The driver pulled open the door,
And called out for them to desist.

The air came in waves, and grew hot,
As if from a hydrogen bomb.

The kids 'round my girl disappeared,
Into pink dust like mist floating.

And there stood my Tara, unharmed,
Her wavy green hair, unbraided.

The bus driver gave her his arm,
So she could go up the three steps.

He drove down the road with my child,
And brought her back safe to my arms.

The click of handcuffs fell away,
"Go home to your child." bid the cop.
