April Snow

Heralds of spring go hungry today.
Flocking on melted roads,
Feet too delicate to navigate
the depth of blanketed lawns.
Worms taunt from beneath pavement;
Early birds await the thaw.

Author's Note
Spring comes agonizingly slow where I live, constantly teasing with warm sunshine then collapsing into frigid gray again. However, lest you fall prey to the stereotype that all of my country is like this - it isn't.  It is a vast and beautiful place, and where many of my friends live, it has been full-on spring for ages.  But here....the poor robins looked so confused the morning I wrote this!  It had all melted by afternoon.
