Let me not lie here

Lay me not down to die
not yet,  please not yet.
Lay me not down to die
or let my bones melt from comfort
or let my mind drain from boredom
or let my heart ossify from discontent.

Bring such tests to strain my limbs to vigour,
my mind to deep inspiration
and such a howling tempest of action to make my soul roar with approval.
Let me not lie in these lands
where the feeling of lover's hands has not yet been known
or lay down in bliss with a heart beating beside my body.

Let me not lie with the dying, decaying and dull
Let me yet bathe in the spectrum of experience
and gaze upon the variegated glory of excitement
to the sounds of laughter and life affirmed.

Let me not lie here
or else I shall burn these bridges
and strangle the life of the weak around me.

Let me not lie here; I wish to wake up and live.
Let me not lie: I want to move on.

Give me destiny or death if it must come to that.
