Murderous Intent

The night held winter’s crisp crunch
I walked the darkened city streets
Until I reached the central park
I looked up to the night sky
There was no moon, no stars
It was just blacker than black
Like a chalkboard freshly painted
Who turned off the moon and stars?
I looked to the cityscape horizon
All the buildings were in darkness
Not a single streetlight was alight
No flashing or static neon signs
No cars or the glare of headlights
Who turned all the power off?
I cautiously wandered back
To the comfort of my street
Looking for a familiar, friendly face
There was nothing, no one
Just the ever growing darkness
I watched it as it started to encroach
Towards my personal space
I suddenly realised I was naked
And I stood there embarrassed
Looking down on my nakedness
I was frozen to the spot
Completely unable to move
The darkness then turned on me
Slowly moving over my body
Like a cold black milkshake
I witnessed my body parts disappearing
Under this moving cloak
My shoulders first to go
Then my chest and arms
Slowly erasing my stomach
My internal panic palpable
As it ate away both my legs
Was I now really just a head
I wasn’t sure, I couldn’t see
Then I started to violently choke
I felt the darkness slither and slide
Like a snake down my throat
And now, I couldn’t breathe
I gasped frantically, shaking
Fitting and going into spasm
Just trying to take breath
I felt the pillow over my face
I felt her weight across me
I awoke to her murderous intent
Violently throwing her off me
Punching her few times in the face
This was to my detriment
As I then got arrested
Domestic abuse, they said
I had no marks on me
Only I could have been guilty
That’s the way it works
There is very little I can do
It’s clear you don’t love me anymore
But my future plans will make sure
The darkness never comes back
