Love At First Sight

I ain't care what my cousin was sayin
Was headin up the aisle and out the door
But she spoke and my feet locked stride
With my ears, I heard her voice,
But something in my belly stirred at the sound of her words
I turned to see her
Wild horses could not have pulled me away
Caught so far off guard, I nearly sat my ass down on the floor
She was a beautiful woman
A lovely, triple- fudge brownie colored assemblage of female magnificence
Wearing a red-splashed tangerine and yellow sundress that perfectly accented the darkness she wore so damn well
It had splits running high up both sides
Giving her big shapely legs all the room to move they could want
She stood boldly on that stage
Wide-legged in the spotlight
Hands on her hips like a dare
A challenge
A threat
Maybe even an invitation
The way my mind was reeling ,I couldn't be sure which
And as sprung as I was I didn't too much care
In her eyes there was fire
Like Oprah in The Color Purple as she spoke of loving Harpo dearly, yet being willing to kill him before being beaten again
And the shine of fierce determination
Just as Oprah's character made up her mind to deck the white man who slapped her and thought there would be no consequences
I was transfixed
I was spellbound
And I was going nowhere
Until I heard everything that this spoken word artist had to say.

And to think I told my cousin that poetry was a waste of my time
