Thank You

How my heart screams to thank you
For no man here can know
As I long have known
That the seasons as they go
Show no twilight like my own.

How my heart screams to thank you—
Love still and quiet doth stand—
His leaves I gather blow away,
And wreathes I offer to his hand:
Bloom and wither in a day:

It screams to thank you
The thorns that remain
Are the wedding band,
I presented in vain
I feel the petal corpses pray
In words none can understand
All my heart can never say

How it screams to thank you
How it screams to thank you
That by your hand it learned to cry
How it screams to thank you
For the scar of your goodbye.
How it screams to thank you.

Oh, thank you
That my soul expire
Oh, thank you
Thy apparition’s memory
Shall be my pyre
Cast out to a tear of frost—
And my heart is crossed
With the promise unbroken
And the oath once spoken
When for me Heaven was blue—
How it screams, how it screams to thank you.
