Winter's end

Stay as evening falls and clouds enfold,
earth still, darkening greens as fields fade,
night-jars compete with fox and badger
flowers closed against the early dew, nectar
safe for morning sun and skylark songs.A
daily round again begins to circle copse
and pasture waking spring sown seeds
swelling, thrusting roots deep into the
warming soil, wet with gentle rain,
winter storms no more (the hope of man
and wildling dreams ).
Stay awhile, watch as evening falls
wait 'til darkening green fields fade to night.
