storm

her whole world stopped    
the day he passed,    
the planets continued      
on their smooth spiral dance    
while everything inside    
her was spinning    
out of control    
     
when someone    
you love dies    
you expect the sky    
to tear itself apart    
to burn in lightning    
and crash in thunder    
for the ground to spit and sputter,    
oceans to roll in ferocity    
     
but none of that happens,    
it is an inner storm    
that crashes and burns    
in the heart,    
while the sun continues to shine
