Bayou Lafourche

it has been here for so many years
food harvested from its waters
by the first Cajuns long, long ago
pirates (Jean Lafitte) and other cruised
its waters
seeking better routes to the
Gulf of Mexico
for plunder
gold and silver fine women at their call
as I sit on its bank very still
I swear I can hear the pirates as they
glide on by
but of course that is all in my mind
or is it?
but if I close my eyes
and I lay very still on the bayou’s bank
the hullabaloo within
the pirate ship surrounds my thoughts
and my ears?
no, it’s just my imagination
eh . . .
if I lived back then
I would ride the pirate ships
I know I would it would just be me
no doubt in my mind
