Of A Nocturnal Breed

I see the light
When need be,
The sunrise overrated,
Sunsets good enough for me,

Drowsy eyes come full awake
As restless souls go seeking slumber,
Smell the sin chilled night air,
Dark withering hands of wind rake

Through my hair,
So much to see
That can't be seen by day,
It's the living hour
And the sun is in the way,

But now spirits are well rested
Taking to the city streets~ nightlife infested,

Party animals rage us on,
Making sure everyone's aware
That sleep is for the dead,
Early grows the eve, we find the partied out
Shape shifted upon their piles of thread,

Pitch of black fuses orange hue,
Up on the horizon,
I bid adieu to my new found fine madam~ i'm wizen,
If not, then by my hand I hang my soul up in the gallow,
I tell you true it's been a tale or two
Since i've seen my own shadow.

Lumbering home is always done alone,
Grasping what's left of light to steal,
I don't sleep, I dream of every night
A reenactment so hauntingly long ago,
Of a done deal.
