Goodnight dearest Daddy
It’s rather sweet and tender how she says:
“Goodnight, dearest daddy,” with a blush
That indicates she won’t sleep as she plays
With thoughts that fill her head, until the flush
Of early dawn brings her reveille close;
And she will wake to find she’s not alone
For, on her pillow, I have left a rose
And a good morning note, to match the tone
With which she left me for her dreams last night;
And found a thousand fantasies and reveries
To comfort her and add to her delight
At knowing, come the morning, she’ll be mine:
As sweet and tender as she can design.
