Memory
Betwixt songs; betwixt rays
I see thorns returning
And while frost hides the bloom
I will build for thee a crest.
But this garden hides,
Save in memory
Where I clearly see
The dewdrops stolen
By all that withers.
Entering through bygone ways
My candle burning
From twin ends in gloom
I would gather a nest
But my wings are torn,
Save in fantasy
Where I clearly see
The beams awakening
Shades I dare not soar.
A stranger enters, an old friend strays;
I see their hearts yearning
From the safety of my womb
For a sanctuary to rest.
But the seeds are buried
Too deeply
And I clearly see
All dying without birth
To be less than ghosts
All the shine,
All the memory;
All the promises of growth
Cannot even be ghosts.
I see thorns returning
And while frost hides the bloom
I will build for thee a crest.
But this garden hides,
Save in memory
Where I clearly see
The dewdrops stolen
By all that withers.
Entering through bygone ways
My candle burning
From twin ends in gloom
I would gather a nest
But my wings are torn,
Save in fantasy
Where I clearly see
The beams awakening
Shades I dare not soar.
A stranger enters, an old friend strays;
I see their hearts yearning
From the safety of my womb
For a sanctuary to rest.
But the seeds are buried
Too deeply
And I clearly see
All dying without birth
To be less than ghosts
All the shine,
All the memory;
All the promises of growth
Cannot even be ghosts.
