Perdita in Volo

it comes back  –  the hell after you.

you go from here to there.  to there.
you change your name.  make a new face.
you are like a star, invisible among so many stars.

a nugget of gold is love
when we take it from the earth;
it cuts our hands.  hurts to be close.

we bloom upon each other like solar flares.
not from intimacy, nor lack of it:
I can hold you just to hold you.

when a skylark weeps in the argent curtain of moonlight
a sonnet evolves in the drifting of clouds
then it will be enough.

knight of loneliness
that I ride a pallid horse;
abandon is my spirit’s name.

lay me down where you rest when the wind
torments a pavilion of revenants
lay me down in your bed unforgiven.

if you didn’t like me
I would have prepared an exit speech.  or said nothing.

it comes back  –  the hell after you
