Bridge of Stars
In chilled shards the crystal core is burning,
The ghost of fevers returning
With last words that struggle to be kind
Guided to the spheres by seraph blind.
Who would hear the ashes fall
Where (wingless in this burden) they suffering crawl?
The bridge of stars is long and chill
Where walks in search of Divine Will
My jewel lost, betrayed; bedight
In orisons that flood the endless night
Hand-in-hand as they struggle on
To lonely skies deprived of dawn.
So cold absorbing tides of day
From all the rays should wash away
Each hour a baptism failed and hiding
With hands that tremble, sorely guiding
To diseases the mind will not cure
Through the mists that now obscure
Reasoning that shone behind these eyes
Where now a crown abandoned lies.
A Kingdom Come’s banners unfold
Reaching for skies the stars cannot hold.
My jewel found a high prison door
And the shadow that it was before
Locked and waiting to wake afresh
Rekindling agony to dreaming flesh
Hand-in-hand where the righteous stray
And, so numb, I watch as both decay.
The ghost of fevers returning
With last words that struggle to be kind
Guided to the spheres by seraph blind.
Who would hear the ashes fall
Where (wingless in this burden) they suffering crawl?
The bridge of stars is long and chill
Where walks in search of Divine Will
My jewel lost, betrayed; bedight
In orisons that flood the endless night
Hand-in-hand as they struggle on
To lonely skies deprived of dawn.
So cold absorbing tides of day
From all the rays should wash away
Each hour a baptism failed and hiding
With hands that tremble, sorely guiding
To diseases the mind will not cure
Through the mists that now obscure
Reasoning that shone behind these eyes
Where now a crown abandoned lies.
A Kingdom Come’s banners unfold
Reaching for skies the stars cannot hold.
My jewel found a high prison door
And the shadow that it was before
Locked and waiting to wake afresh
Rekindling agony to dreaming flesh
Hand-in-hand where the righteous stray
And, so numb, I watch as both decay.
