For The Love Of A Friend

Broken and lonely
covered with life's deep bruises
filled with the hurt
of an inconsolable loss
a soul blown like dust in the wind
nothing to hold on to
slowing desperately, spinning to an end

she comes to my rescue, the love of my friend

“....turn down the lights
turn down the bed
turn down these voices
inside my head

lay down with me
tell me no lies
just hold me close
don't patronize...”

...and she crawls beneath my covers
forgetting about the past
endangering her present
blurring the boundaries of her future
unselfishly
wrapping her arms around me
the softness of her lips
upon my head, she kisses me
if but a moment, she makes me whole
makes me feel complete
a willing sacrifice, she dares make me believe
that I can go on, that I can live again....

...she heals me

and her body
is like a healing balm
she anoints me with her goodness
I feel safe from all harm

“...here in the dark
in these final hours
I will lay down my heart
cause I feel the power”

...for the love of my friend

borrowed words from the fabulous Bonnie Raitt "I Can't Make You Love Me"
