I'm Reading You
I'm reading you
The front cover title
Letters like the logo on an old rusty Ford
The back cover summary
You're Conway Twitty on an old dirt road
And dancing to hood music
In worn out work boots
I'm sitting here staring at you
Feeling my heart flutter
When you avert your gaze to meet mine
Feeling my knees go weak
When you brush my skin
With the simplest touch
Back to school girl crushes
Craving the most mundane things
Like the feel of your tobacco flavored lips
Pressed gently to mine
With the music of crickets
Singing a sweet serenade
I'm reading you
I want to know
What is etched in those pages
Everything that makes you tick
The memories that lovingly haunt
The rooms of your childhood home
Before I knew you
And you knew me
I want to hear your biggest dreams
And add them to my own bucket list too
I want to know your favorite songs
Make them boom through
The speakers in my heart
Your hopes, your fears, your failures...
Let me see all those too
The little quirks that make you strange
In such a perfect way
As I shake my head saying
"Goofy boy"
I'm reading you
Will you take me for who I am?
This wretched lost and found being I've become?
My fears and opinions and frustrations
With this world
My independent and stubborn nature
And desire to be held close
Will you kiss me till the darkness fades away?
I'm reading you
... will you read me?
