Cant
Her ears detect the instant, when the lapse
Of clever intercession on his part,
Gives way to silence or a paused “perhaps”,
She smiles to see this horse before the cart
Of all his clever logic – there’s the proof
That she is who she is; and this dictates
The fact that she must submit to his truth
And to his lewd perversity; this grates
Upon her faculty and, yet, she’ll hold
Her argument and will not interrupt
The prescient silence; let him be quite bold
And then regain the stage; let him corrupt
Her youthful, innocence with his perfect
Cant that, through his lapse, her ears detect.
