Love had not been invented yet

We thought we were in love, but love had not been invented yet
We felt a feeling of unease as we paid each other money
As we unfolded into each other and call each other honey
But when love does not exist than what is this called.

We recited poetry to each other but not love poems
They were more like stories of war, poems with questions
We thought we were in love, but love had not been invented yet
We were the slaves of corporations not allowed to know anything.

In every smile you brought a new sensation a feeling of elation
And every touch had a heartbeat and then there was a revelation
We felt ourselves in our new skins and began to question everything
We thought we were in love, but love had not been invented yet.

And as we questioned our lives our kindness begin to fortify
Unfolding into a significant new sensation
That in time would be known as love
We thought we were in love, but love was just a want
That soon would be a reality.
