Shadows

I got up the nerve to give you one more call
The answer I got wasn't worth the fall
You gave up so maybe I should give up too
I'm itching to move on, or is that just fungus in my shoe?

I wasn't good enough to be your lover
Or was I too good? You make me wonder
You chose a bad boy who gave it real good
Till he took away everything he could

I should never have tried to cross the line
Made more a shambles of your life than mine
Now that I have drawn a new line to cross
I must step over the fear of love loss

The last thing standing between love and me
Are the shadows through which I cannot see
But now I know the darkness in your heart
Is hiding the lies you can't tell apart

So many truths to choose from your pack of lies
Do you ever forget who was looking in your eyes
When you handed another crooked story
To another of your unsuspecting quarry?

Carful not to trip over your own shadow
You might fall down a path you're not prepared to follow
I won't be there next time you need lifting up
When you're trapped beneath your discarded suitors pileup
