A Death Honored

While distance may soften its terrible blow
And covet the voices of all that I know.
To know of its coming did I not foresee
The folly, the flashpoint of what was to be.

A blinding, the instance its mark left behind,
Would never make up for the love that we'd find.
The way now has answers you hope to define,
With your declaration, its life to confine.

Short shrift it may seem of lovers' infusion,
Released from your fear its foregone conclusion.
And realize henceforth it's all that you'll need,
Will be yours as my gift the moment I'm freed.
