In the Bag (inspired by "the final wake" by David Macleod)

Poetry is forever as long as you seal it in a Ziploc bag
Where water can't wash the lines away
And memories won't matter anyway
When aliens land on the barren Earth
Not even Liberty's torch remains or reminds
Whoever these creatures be from distant stars above the sky
All that exists as evidence is wrapped in plastic that never fails
Plastic seals never break or sink or empty out
Of the oxygen that once gave life and breath to clever minds
So sure that nothing we do could kill the world
But even Mother Nature can't give birth
After human's historyectomy
All that is left of me
In that Ziploc bag is my poetry
And the aliens looked at each other in bewilderment
For how could humans so wise and caring
Have destroyed a world of such beauty?
How could beings so intelligent
Have squandered their natural resources?
They saw it coming, right here it says so
In the words of this brilliant man, this poetryman
Who warned them of the dangers when there was still a chance
Was he the only one who knew, the only one who cared?
Who was this JJ Johnson who was so much wiser than the rest?
We may never know, but this Ziploc bag sure is fuckin' cool!
