The Final Wake
It’s a party of sorts to celebrate death
The table is set for the few that are left
All are welcome, without exception
No longer believing the mass deception
That salvation was available to anyone
Provided by the death of god's only son
In the end, it was all just a mirrors and smoke
Simple lies made up to scare simple folk
No one was coming to save us
No one left trying to enslave us
A passive acceptance is all that we've got
Regrets and what ifs' is finally our lot
We just lost the plot, lost our last nerve
And what we've got left is what we deserve
There’s no final solution, no final plan
So I welcome you all to the wake of man
A party of sorts, with no real surprise
A celebration of mankind’s final demise
Everyone’s equal now, the rich and the poor
We concocted this virus without any cure
No one is immune, no one will be spared
The damage we've done cannot be repaired
No more riots or panic or heartfelt laments
Now passive acceptance is all that makes sense
So fill up your glasses, no need for a toast
Mankind as a species will soon be a ghost
At last we will be extinct and withdrawn
The planet will heal itself after we've gone
Its future scenario is one of best case
The world will be a much better place
You know that’s the truth, though it’s hard to admit it
It will be a much better place without us in it
The table is set for the few that are left
All are welcome, without exception
No longer believing the mass deception
That salvation was available to anyone
Provided by the death of god's only son
In the end, it was all just a mirrors and smoke
Simple lies made up to scare simple folk

Hmmm. Another angry poem David. I hope everything is okay, and yeah. The world really is going to shit. I agree with you there.

'I hope everything is ok' thank you so much for that comment you obviously are sensitive to what's going on - I am very much mood driven - I just heard a few days ago I have to go back into hospital to have a higher up re-amputation of my left leg so I was pretty angry writing these
thank you for reading and your understanding :-)

This is why humans invented religion, so many cannot accept that the end really is the end. Once we are gone there will be no one to remember our poems... perhaps there are aliens out there who will come here long after we are dead and they will find my books of poetry sealed in zip lock plastic bags, because plastic is forever, just ask the whales... ahhh, yes, I will be rememberd!

the term plastics are forever I think would make a great poem title - I may steal it as one (lol)

i love this poem, have had these thoughts before too.
Mankind as a species will soon be a ghost
At last we will be extinct and withdrawn
The planet will heal itself after we've gone
seems that way might be best. at present rate

David I love this! Reminds me of End of Days by Abney Park. Seems that it begs to be put to music and turned into a song.

so glad you loved it - unfortunately I have no musical skills at all - I have collaborated with musicians in the past but nobody round about me these days to work with - any ideas / suggestions always warmly received :-)

Well written, great description. Those who disagree are only refusing to see. Life isn't a bitch. Life is a gift that we take for granted. As if we're worthy of anything but a memory. Memory's only last a lifetime and for us that's a split second compared to the existence of our domain. Which has become our reason to blame. As if we are deserving.
