Ghost Ship

With ghosts forlorn brimming full
The cup is born to my soul,
Watching the sickle of a strange eclipse
Shine on the ghosts of fallen ships
Drifting clear league on mile
In search of the cumulous isle,
Their winds shattered upon the sea
Quivering in sorrow silently,
Weighing anchor to eternity.

Now sleeps blue the mythic wave
His silent foam upon the grave
Where many a tattered, lost ship’s sail
Shall capture upon the starless gale
A sigh half-dreaming yarns of a forgotten tale
That the bones in coral labyrinths below
Whisper in the riches of their woe
Eternal in the depths to lie
Their lone skulls screaming to the sky
While their souls wander to the skyline
Where the dawn welcomes with her shine
An echo of a widow’s melody
As she waits before the silent sea
Her prayer beyond the mist-swept pier
A shadow of hope each specter may hear
As sailing, sailing, they reach for the skies
Where eternal the wind bears their fell sighs
And time and again each sailor lost dies.
