His Eyes

What glare shall be our rainbow?
Is it in thine eye’s shifting glow?
What hues in light or shadow rise
Where the seat of thy spirit lies!
What angel bears such fire
As graces thee my sire?
What diadem fair doth adorn
These spheres where the King’s Star is born?

From the green of sacred lees
To the blue of distant seas
The light thou doth bear
In the beauty of thy stare
Echoes a myriad Heavens that grace the sky,
But no bastion above
Or citadel on high
Echoes thee my love,

For the song of thy sight
Bears its own Heaven’s height
And to those angels of pearl wing
Thy name I shall sing,
And lay me down to rest
In this palace for thee blessed.

And that my dear is our rainbow
In whose pools
The golden flowers grow.
