Tragedy Is Always Waiting

A unique feeling of sadness comes over me
when I am talking to someone I know
whoI know is using drugs with a needle
oh yes I have seen people using drugs
for over 50 years now that's right I am 68
I've been around you know and I have seen
countless tragedies and catastrophes
happen to good people I knew very well
I always remember Wally the Polock who
I knew in Chicago when I was a young man
he was the kind of person who will forever
shine in your memory I was told long ago
he had turned blue as  a cops uniform
before they found him IOD'd  on herion
the sights i've seen in my lifetime tells me
there is no way anyone else could ever feel
this strange feeling that comes to me
when I look into that person's eyes
with me knowing some tragic catastrophe
no telling what it will be...Will happen to them
and it won't take very long it never does
