Somewhere

Where I pray at the city gate
To the endless, dark years
Where I swore I would wait
To the waking of my tears.

His footsteps from the window
The veil where was his shadow
I walk with my low eyes
Where the silent wave lies—

His promise yet staining the breeze
For his lone tale untold
On the waters of horrid seas
Where no sails unfold

His farewell of long ago
In the rain of my view.
And no winds shall blow
Without the voice that I knew

Hear me whispering to the calm
Of the moon-drenched low tide
While I clasp within my palm
A specter by my side.

And we watch the wind carry far
Orisons over the sea,
A wish to every star
That he will return to me.

Between the lone, forgotten towers
Of the city without sleep
I watch the dying of the hours
Wilting while I weep…

Can you see the passage of night,
Carrying me to a dreamer’s lair
Where I may seal the dying light
In my sorrow and prayer

As I watch the watery graves
Guiding to the shadowed lands
Beyond the terror of the waves
With the specter in my hands?
