The Yes

His face is close to hers. It looks so tense.
He’s waiting for her answer and his hands
Press her. They confuse. Is there more sense
In staying here or leaving? Shifting sands
Should mean she walks away and not come back:
A stroll across the courtyard and she’s safe,
With all anxiety so well condensed
In that quick step away from his fine face:
And this is her dilemma – recompensed
By his fair features - she leans in: a slow,
Soft gesture that’s not tentative at all -
It indicates that she’s prepared to go
With him. Sure of the ice – she will not fall.
And now she’s so assured she almost purrs
The yes that really means the girl is sir’s.
