Twinge of Guilt

(An un-nursery rhyme)

If you can do what I can do, you’ll find that you may need,
When all you know are bloodied hands, a way from blood get freed.
If you can dance the true heart’s dance, then blow her heart to bits’
If you can break a sacred vow and just not give two shits.
And can destroy with no concern, all the things you’ve built.
I’d look to find that peace of mind, “tomorrow’s twinge of guilt.”

I never sought to find this thing, this all-consuming balm.
It came to me as if for free, this brand new sense of calm.
It makes me free to finely be, that nice guy/hitman prick,
For there’s not one it will not mend, no asshole, cunt or dick.
It lies to all, this weeping self, the lie of feelings felt.
And makes all right the ruthless shit with selfish dealings dealt.

‘Cause when I know destroying lives Is all that really works,
And have them think I was their friend, it’s just one of its perks.
There is no foul or heartless act that I will not commit,
But with that guilt, it makes me think, I might just give a shit.
But I know me and truth I see, it’s only fairy dust.
For I will do what I need to, in God and that I’d trust.

So if you’d seem, like I would seem, convinced that heart still feels,
And yet would make a killing blow in gas-lit, black-heart deals.
I would suggest you give a try, though swimming in blood spilt,
Concocted lie for your “nice guy,” “tomorrow’s twinge of guilt.”
