Tuning the Soul

she has decided
that unhappiness
is no way to continue to live
she has had the wind knocked
out of her sails before
maybe not quite as hard as what
she has been dealt lately,
but she knows, hiding away
behind closed doors
behind eyes welled with tears
is not where she wants to be

she sits behind the piano
keys of life
she knows, it is not all
black and white
you must read between the lines
there will be treble times
and flat notes
and notes that make you feel whole
others that tear you in half
you may pluck at them individually
trying to make sense of the
upscale, downscale, upscale, sliding scale,
the whole keyboard of life

they are best played together
in harmony,
she knows she has her work cut out for her
these things take time,
finding the right chords
to fine tune her life again
she knows if she puts her whole
heart into it
her new song will come
