Innocent

Someday soon they’ll come for me to release my soul
Pump the poison in my veins and bury me where heaven knows
I’m a man without a future and a past they don’t believe
I’m a man who’s innocent in the land of guilty pleas

And that’s how it goes
That’s how it stays
Not one will interfere for me
For someone else’s crime I’ll pay

Someone died an awful death
At the madman’s sharpened blade
Someone I knew a little bit in freedom's life
And sometime soon I’ll be with her when I have paid

And people wave their useless signs
Outside the prison walls
And my lawyer waits for a call
That we know will never come at all

Someday soon has come at last and the phone remains a silent thing
My last meal was served last night just a burger and some rings
I’m strapped down to table cold to excite my fears I start to cry
With a window at my feet so the victim’s family can see my eyes

I grow tired
I grow weak and close my eyes
I go to sleep forever now
And never hear the loud applause

Innocent
Innocent
I’m not a killer
But I’m dead
