Another Journey

Half done, no going back
Except down the corridors of memory
Like a video game, dead ends abound
Exits hard to find, because you like the game?
Because they weren't meant to be found?
Because you're not too bright, like the tunnels you go down?

Two tastes of greatness are offered
What are we bid? And who is worthy?
Internal exclamations rush forward and are ignored
Ignoble exuberance cute but not really there
As the judges unravel their tangled egos
It's got to hurt a bit

A step too far and someone falls
Then the screaming sounds of descent
Grist for the wheels as they seek another way
Scorecards out, the illiterate leave marks
Fruit lovers dream of trees and juice
Root eaters are at home underground

Who's looking for closure? Neat freaks sigh
Each invisibly fingered for what they are
Discomfort mingles with pleasure waiting to dance
Is that wetness I smell? Wishful thinking maybe
Fear's little helpers whimper for a sniff
Nothing today says a wall, god help us all
