Daylight Tears
Daylight tears that kiss the time
Left of this friendship’s climb.
Rivers, daylight drops to prize
In the flowing bird’s crystal eyes.
Dew of sense, dew descend
For an unforgotten friend.
Dew to reach the starless bed
Of the star crossed, lonely dead.
I will kiss the dew from thy cheek
And beg thee again to speak
Of fields where we could run
Below the blush of a rising sun,
With the dew of day’s first sigh
So violet a burning dye.
Walk on water by my hand,
On the wide lake we shall stand
‘Neath a sky growing blue
To watch clear pearls of the dew
Drop by drop on the petals.
And when each tear settles
The gold adorning
The breath of morning
Shall let dry
Thy glittering eye.
Daylight tears touch my heart,
Ere our ways soon must part.
How I wish thou wouldst cry
When I say goodbye.
How I wish that day to know
The words, “Please don’t let me go.”
How I wish I could see
The one last tear from thee
That says, “Please don’t let me go.
Stay and watch our garden grow.”
One daylight tear passing through
Piercing with the words, “I fell in love with you.”
Now I cry to say goodbye.
Please do not let me go
Where the sun cannot glow
Without thy morning dew.
Without but one, “Why am I losing you?”
Daylight tears promise this
I may return for a first kiss.
Daylight tears—wave goodbye,
To where I used to lie.
River flow, say a fond farewell
While my eyes mend and swell.
Daylight tears—so much yet so few
That breathe one word: “Adieu”
While on glass breaks the sunlit rain.
Left of this friendship’s climb.
Rivers, daylight drops to prize
In the flowing bird’s crystal eyes.
Dew of sense, dew descend
