The Gone Away
As the sun breaks the horizon
She is up and showering, making plans
She dries and tosses her towel in the hamper
As she’s done a thousand times
No, a million it seems
And dresses quickly
She packs only those things she loves into a suitcase
And leaves the bedroom for the last time
She barely glances at the kitchen
Where his breakfast dishes sit unwashed
To remain so
And leaves with conviction in her heart
The day is full of sun and promise
There is no note
There are no words to explain this need
She goes to her car in the drive
And leaves this place
Never to be seen here again
And she is happy
She is up and showering, making plans
She dries and tosses her towel in the hamper
As she’s done a thousand times
No, a million it seems
And dresses quickly
She packs only those things she loves into a suitcase
And leaves the bedroom for the last time
She barely glances at the kitchen
Where his breakfast dishes sit unwashed
To remain so
And leaves with conviction in her heart
The day is full of sun and promise
There is no note
There are no words to explain this need
She goes to her car in the drive
And leaves this place
Never to be seen here again
And she is happy
