The Inky Black

Darkness falls around me
As the sun sets from the sky
I feel afraid to be here
Where the madness comes
And the people die
I wonder which direction
The attack will come from now
And steel myself for mortal combat
As the stars come flashing  
In an endless sky
I’m not alone with my expression of fear
Written large upon my face
I know I only live in danger
In this dark and angry place
I can hear the others around me
Their fear a palpable thing
I taste in on a tongue like copper
I know I’m just not ready
As I hear them scream
And die their deaths
To this darkest king
Morning’s light can’t come too fast
Though I’ve lived through this before
I wake with silent scream again
I sit weeping on my bed
And cry the darkest tears
From deep within
Is this a remnant of my past?
I just don’t know and I can’t care
I only know I lived this night through
As the darkness fell
And filled me up with fear
It’s just that I’m afraid of the inky black
Come to hurt my mind
It's come once again
