The Innocent Pay

This poem was started months before the madness in Paris but I just completed it, using the anger from those acts to move me.

And who’ll be the killers today
And can we catch them to make them pay?
How many lives will they take here tonight?
And how did they get those guns anyway?

Welcome to the new world
The land of the gift horse who hears what you speak
Pills galore and the weapons you seek
It’s hard to complain about what you can wreak

So the innocent will learn how to pay
For some imagined crime against the killer today
And for this he will sit fifty years
As they fight for his life amid all the fools tears

And yet another one will think it is cool
And he wants to be the one who will rule
With his face on the front page today
But we’ll forget him when he’s thrown away

It’s started to become global
This madness against us
This killing among us is total
Yet they do nothing to save us

So say goodbye to the land of the free
They take it away from you and from me
Can't save us from things that they miss every time
We are always the victims no matter the crime
