Mood

In mood somber yet serene
In dreamed-of fields of living green,
I rest to nurse my melancholy
And wonder at the midnight sky
As the air is brimming, thick
With a strange, low music:
Melodies peaceful men would hate
With voices of a beauty desolate,
For no beauty is without sadness.
While lovers hint of madness
With lavender mists, picturesque
In this realm of hearts grotesque
There comes a shine to the rain
To wash away the cerise stain
Of all we fear may rise again.
Of what fear the lost who terry
Alone, afraid in their ossuary
On diamond beds, each iron-crowned:
To their deep rest glides that sound
Through the door of fading brass
Birthing tears in each eye of glass;
Floating notes that dare to ring
‘Neath that vault’s cobalt sky
For the desiccated slumbering
Kings and Queens that lie.
And o’er valleys, o’er lees,
O’er pools and silent seas
O’er the ripples of the lake
Harmony sad hearts will take;
Drifting in downtrodden air
Up a Rapture’s pearly stair
To the mythic, glinting glade
Never to wither or fade.
