the play is, indeed, the thing...

 











few took seriously his contention -
he was, after all, well known for allowing
his mind to play like a fish in the
strangest of backwaters...

some said that he read
the anglo saxon chronicle as though
it were as current as twitter, or that he
considered Pepys as up to date as
Piers Morgan...

and so of course, when he came
out of the theatre stating that he had
witnessed a murder, well naturally...

and yet past events continued
to occupy him, despite being not a jot
involved directly in what others would
have understood as their world -

since anything may very well
have occurred at some time or another -
oh, if not to him specifically,
well what of that..?
