MATERNAL SORROW
(Written for the "Something on Nature" competition)
Our mother's love cannot be measured
providing for our every breath
held to her ample bosom treasured
while cruelly we hasten her death
We build and build and build some more
heralded by chainsaw cacophony
defiling forest, field and shore
forever silencing her symphony
Once upon a time to mankind she entrusted
the stewardship over all planet earth
but for riches, power, dominion we lusted
leaving good mother lamenting our birth

Excellent view of Mother Earth and her thoughtless children, and the tragedy of it. Those children are going to be very sorry when they come to their senses. Might be a bit late when that occurs. "Global warming? What global warming?" Great structure and rhyme scheme, well in service to the theme. Fine work Gahdess!

I love the second stanza, its the stark truth of humanities selfishness at its best.
