First Kiss
It's not as loud as you imagine
All your life.
It's almost a whisper by comparison
To expectations.
It's not as instant as you imagine,
Dragging on
It's almost a whole other lifetime
Lived in reflection
It doesn't hurt
I always thought it would
But it barely touches you
Before it's all over
As if time forgot to exist
And all other motion ceased
Only one chunk of lead released
When the shotgun blew a kiss.
All your life.
It's almost a whisper by comparison
To expectations.
It's not as instant as you imagine,
Dragging on
It's almost a whole other lifetime
Lived in reflection
It doesn't hurt
I always thought it would
But it barely touches you
Before it's all over
As if time forgot to exist
And all other motion ceased
Only one chunk of lead released
When the shotgun blew a kiss.
